The loch is gin clear, sitting at 14 °C, and the winter ticket structure is now live. With the rod average at 8 fish per rod and the average weight 2.5 lb, it has been an outstanding start to the winter schedule. Plenty of fish are coming out in the 5–8 lb range, topped by a stunning 4.5 lb brown from Scott Pozzi (weighed in the net) which takes this week’s Fish of the Week. The largest rainbow tipped the scales at 8 lb, while my own evening session produced a memorable 7 lb brown caught on camera.
How it’s fishing: Almost every method is scoring — from buzzers and Diawl Bachs to FABs, Shipman’s, cormorants, snakes and cat bugs. The key is adjusting depth: most fish are high in the water, but on bright middays a midge tip or deeper bung is often needed. As light fades, the burn inlet has been electric with shoals rising freely. Weed is actively managed but never sanitised; it’s the lifeblood of the loch, keeping the water crystal clear and the fish in prime condition.

- Duncan McKenzie – around 10 on GRHE and midge tip, with many more opportunities.
- Gordon Harper – 8 landed, including fish of 6 lb & 5 lb on a foam-arsed hopper.
- Tony Masterson – 8 fish on nymphs & buzzers, with plenty more lost.
- Paul Peacock & partner – both into double figures on their first visit.
- Lee Chisholm – 13 fish including two 5 lb rainbows on buzzers, DBs, Cormorants, FABs & blobs.
- Dean Cormack – 4 fish on orange vicar/olive vicar under the bung.
🏆 Rosyth CSSC Club Day
- Andy Smary – took the trophy with 16 fish.
- Owen Cook – 14 during the comp, finished on 19 after fishing on until 6.30 pm.
- Ian Wilson – 7 to the net.
- Plenty more rods recorded 5+ fish, though not all scorecards were left.
A brilliant day with strong returns across the board, showing how well the loch is fishing under winter conditions.

Filming late afternoon, I managed a lively 12 fish in two hours, including a superb 7 lb brown (filmed) and three fish around the 5 lb mark — a fitting way to close one of the best weeks we’ve had at Wormit.

💡 Owner’s Advice
- Fish confidently — almost all methods are scoring, but adjust depth carefully.
- Work the top half of the water column with buzzers, DBs & Cormorants on floaters or midge tips.
- The bung with eggs/FABs still accounting for good numbers even in brighter spells.
- Evenings: Shipman’s, hoppers, and small dries can be deadly as light fades. Dont be scared to strip snakes
- Fish care: barbless/de-barbed only, keep fish wet, quick photos in the net.
