Fishery cooled down and back at its best.
Weekly Summary – A lively Thursday & Friday with regulars and newcomers and even an American group on the bank. Weekend rods were lighter (BBQ weather kept a few at home), but the loch still fished well in the cooler windows.
Water is now totally clear; we watched 50–80 trout sipping shrimp and snails in inches of water. Surface temp briefly hit 19.5 °C last week but boreholes held it steady. We are now comfortable at 17.5 °C.
It was great to see some of the grass carp basking in the sun also. They are much more tolerant of the heat than trout are. (check image)

- Morning / Evening: Floating line • tiny black snail imitations • shrimp bugs • olive damsels
- Afternoons: Fish switched off in the heat – go deeper/slow or wait for shade
- General: Keep retrieves gentle; takes are confident but subtle

- Clarity: Crystal clear; zero weed issues.
Fish-care is critical just now. We lost seven trout last week—including an 8 lb brown—because warm water + rough handling pushed them over the edge. That’s stock everyone enjoys, gone for good. Please ensure that you note the following:-
- Use barbless hooks only (pinch your barbs if needed).
- Land fish quickly on appropriate tackle—no drawn-out battles.
- Keep fish in the net and in the water while unhooking. Two-second photo at most; no “bench” or grass shots.
- Let them recover in the net before release—watch for a strong kick.
- Use a hook disgorger, we have some in the hut and you can buy in any tackle shop and online for less than £1. We will do a video on this.
Borehole Sanctuary: Fish either side of the borehole on the jetty and point opposite, but do not cast directly or either side of over the cold-water inflow. Trout sit there to keep cool and recover—harassing them in that state is stressing them and risks foul-hooking.
