Here is your weekly rundown of whats been happening at the fishery.
The loch reopens this Thursday after a short rest — and with a bumper stocking due early on Thursday, and water temps easing with the cooler weather, it’s shaping up for another busy weekend. Please note that there are a few rods left on Saturday and good availability Thursday, Friday & Sunday.
🐟 Catch Highlights
- Darren Muir – Landed 6 good fish on CDC dries during an evening session and lost several more.
- Guy Read’s group – Totalled 9 fish, including a cracking 6lb rainbow and strong 4–5lb returns. Most action came from the point (Peg 1–2) and the west side of the bridge.
- Alan Baddeley – 6 rainbows up to 5lb
- Steve Brown – 1 brown at 8.25lb (weighed quickly in the net) and 2 rainbows up to 6lb
- Great to have a few rods on from Japan this week who landed a lovely 6lb rainbow.
💧 Water & Weed Update
What you’re seeing isn’t algae — it’s Potamogeton pusillus which is a species of aquatic plant also known by the common names small pondweed, lesser pondweed or least pondweed. It’s a native pondweed that naturally sheds fine strands in warmer weather. It’s part of the ecological cycle and totally harmless. It’s a trade-off: either short-term filaments (called turions) or long-term heavy weed growth. On sunny days it can make the water look green, but as seen in the image below, the water is clear and quality remains excellent per our weekly testing.
A mild winter makes shedding worse, but it typically lasts only about 3 weeks. In future, this may become our “green weeks” — periods where we rest the loch if necessary. Resting the loch only improves the fishing.

- ✅ Zero bloom, zero crash — we monitor this obsessively
🎯 Summary: Fishing is still productive — fish a little deeper during the day, with fish bow-waving in the evening. Weed filaments have peaked and are easing off.
📦 Stocking Update
A bumper load of rainbows and blues goes in Thursday morning. Every fish is hand-picked, nothing under 7–8lb. Proper shoulder-bending stuff — with some nice 3–4lb browns in the mix.

We’re just past the solstice — but long days still deliver. Sunrise: 04:22 | Sunset: 10:02. That’s nearly 19 hours of fishing for £29.50 — just £1.55 per hour. Come and go as you please. Some anglers start before work and return again in the evening.
