THE WORMIT SHIELD – BOXING DAY OPEN 2025

Stillwater Fly-Fishing Championship

Friday 26 December 2025
Wormit Trout Fishery, Newport-on-Tay, Fife

Summary

The Wormit Shield launches this Boxing Day as Scotland’s newest premium stillwater open championship. With limited entries, a structured peg-rotation format, quality catering, and a strong prize fund, it is set to become a regular feature in the Scottish fly-fishing calendar.

If you want a proper winter challenge, plenty fish, and great company in a top-class setting, this is the one to fish.

The Format

  • 20 pegs around the loch, limited to 20 rods
  • 30 minutes per peg with whistle signals
  • Catch and release, barbless hooks only
  • Anglers record time of first fish and total caught
  • Neighbouring angler verifies each catch
  • Most fish wins
  • Tie-breakers: most fish, earliest first fish, most fish in final session

This creates a fast, fair, and engaging match where everyone gets a proper show over the full water.
