Summer Fishing in Full Swing at Wormit
🎯 Catch Highlights
Another excellent week at Wormit, with the fish switched on and water quality at its best.
- Craig Horsburgh: Over 20 fish landed during a steady, productive session.
- Lee Chisholm: Only his third time fly fishing, but already into double figures — with just as many lost. A cracking result for a new angler.
- Carl & David Hilber (Arizona): Visiting from the US, they landed close to 30 fish between them, guided by Scott and Fred. Plenty more came short in the takes, but some stunning trout made it to the net.
Despite a few slower spells due to unsettled weather, the loch has fished exceptionally well for those who’ve adapted. The grounds are looking pristine, and the water quality is spot on — as the photos show.
🌊 Conditions & Water Quality
- Water Temperature: Holding steady at 13.5°C — ideal for summer angling.
- Clarity & Levels: Crystal clear, high, and perfectly oxygenated thanks to the boreholes running at full flow.
- Weed: No issues. Lake Shadow continues to suppress growth effectively.
- Hotspots: The borehole arm remains productive, but fish are active throughout the loch.
🪱 Tactics & Fly Patterns
What’s working this week:
- Buzzers & Nymphs: Size 12 and 14 Diawl Bachs and cormorants fished slowly on a floating line.
- Lure Work: Smaller lures stripped back quickly across the wave have been triggering hard takes and following fish.
- Evening Rises: Floating beetles and static dries are bringing the better fish up — especially after 7pm.
📦 Stocking Update
A fresh stocking will go in this week, including a strong mix of quality rainbows and some serious brown trout in the 2.5lb–4lb range. This continues our commitment to maintaining variety, size balance, and top-tier sport.
🌦️ Weather Outlook – Dundee Area
- Tuesday: Bright intervals, fresh breeze, high of 12°C

- Thursday: Mostly cloudy, occasional showers, high of 14°C
- Friday: Bright spells, occasional rain, 13–16°C

⚠️ Fish Care Reminder
A small number of dead fish have been recovered this week. This is often down to handling stress, especially as temperatures warm. Please follow best practice:
- Use barbless hooks to reduce release time.
- Keep fish in the water — no handling on gravel or benches.
- Wet your hands before handling fish.
- Minimise fight time and release fish quickly.
