🌦️ Wormit Weekly Report – 28th May 2025

Early mornings and evenings have fished best this past week, with warmer surface temperatures making midday sport tougher. That said, conditions improved dramatically over the weekend thanks to fresh winds and rainfall. The boreholes have also been on full flow, helping maintain near-perfect water quality.

Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday saw a noticeable uptick in activity, particularly for Scottish Bank Champion and Wormit regular Scott Pozzi, who messaged in to say:

“If Carlsberg did fishing days, that was one of them! I had 12 on DBs, then changed to buzzers as the birds were out feeding — it was crazy, I had 22 on them. You’ve got the place looking pristine — bank and water — well done, some turnaround.”

That’s exactly what we strive for, and it’s what we aim to deliver every day — even though, as ever, the weather will have the final say.

Also, Wormit regulars David Anderson and Steven Ross both reported a cracking session:

“Morning Greig, just a wee message to say thanks for a fantastic day at Wormit. 7 for me and 6 for Steven. All caught on a blue flash damsel, cut throat cat and olive green snake, best around 4lb.”

Plenty other rods and catches from last week but i csnt report unless you message me.

🛠️ Addressing the Not-So-Good Days

We also received a more critical review from a visiting group from Ireland — the ‘Optimistic Anglers’ — whose feedback, while tough to read, is taken seriously:

“It looks great there but not how we saw it on 23/05/25. Water clarity was 10 cm at best. Weed was very bad and the water had a really bad scum on it, making it impossible to fish. We called it after 30 minutes.”

They caught us right after essential margin maintenance and a serious heatwave — a combination that stirred up pollen, grass cuttings, and stressed Elodea shedding its tips (all manageable, but unsightly when it hits at once).

Our response:

“Hi there — thanks for the comment. You caught us on the back of a very hot spell, right after some essential bank work, which stirred up the margins more than usual. The surface scum you mentioned is a mix of pollen, grass clippings, and the result of Lake Shadow doing its job — stressing back the Canadian pondweed, which then sheds tips as part of its natural cycle. Not ideal on the day, but part and parcel of proper fishery management.

We’ve been skimming daily since, temperatures have cooled, and the loch has cleared up well. Fish are back on buzzers and feeding confidently.

You clearly caught us on a rough one. We’d still be happy to have you back on a better day — no charge. Just drop us a message and we’ll get you booked in.”

As we say, that visit coincided with high heat, wind, and margin work — stirring up natural debris like pollen and pondweed tips. Not ideal, but temporary. Since then, water’s cleared up beautifully and we’ve been skimming daily to keep everything looking sharp. We’ve invited them back for a free return visit.

🎯 What’s Catching

✅ Diawl Bachs and buzzers on size 14 have been solid
✅ Black snakes and mambas are turning fish on faster strips
✅ CDC dries and spiders are starting to work in the right windows
✅ Evening sport best with mini lures and subsurface tactics

🌡️ Water Temp & Clarity

Water temp now at a much more comfortable 13.5°C.

No blanket weed. No algae. Floating fragments are from pondweed shedding tips — a sign Lake Shadow and the grass carp are doing their job. On the windward shore, you may see tiny weed clippings, which we skim daily to remove anything unsightly or that could interfere with fishing.
