🎣 Wormit Weekly Report – Conditions, Catch Highlights & Spring Updates
This past week at Wormit Trout Fishery brought testing conditions, but those who adapted were rewarded. With persistent easterlies and fluctuating air pressure, anglers had to work for their fish — yet several groups still enjoyed superb sport.
🔝 Catch Highlights
🎯 Dave Malcolm
“Had a great day out on Thursday. Four of us had around 30 fish up to 5lb by 3:30 PM. Hard-fighting, well-conditioned trout. I only fished 4 hours — left two mates still going strong. It’s a proper fishery, not one of those ‘lumps of lard’ stocked ponds. Will be back soon. Tight lines if you go! 🎣👍”
🎯 Craig Horsburgh
A solid solo effort saw Craig net 8 fish during his session.
🎯 Discovery Angling Club
“Our club fished Wormit today. It was slow to start, but once the trout switched on, things picked up. Six of us landed around 16 fish, with a few lost as well. The fishery’s looking great and only getting better. Well done, Greig — we’ll be back as a club and individually. 🎣👍”
🧠 Conditions & Tactics
Easterly winds dominated, making for finicky fishing during morning sessions. However, as temperatures lifted in the afternoons, the fish became more active. Productive approaches included:
-
Intermediate lines with snakes or lures, fished at varied retrieve speeds.
-
Bung tactics, particularly effective in calmer spells and sheltered corners.
The fish are in excellent shape — strong, aggressive, and fully switched-on when conditions align.

🎒 Fishery Etiquette – A Gentle Reminder
We want Wormit to remain a welcoming, well-run venue for everyone — so please keep these simple principles in mind:
🔁 Rotation & Fair Play
If you’re consistently catching in one area, consider moving to let others enjoy the action. It’s not a rule — just good etiquette.
💬 Ask & Share
Struggling? Ask. A quick tip on fly choice or depth can turn your session around. Anglers helping anglers — that’s the culture we want.
💨 Stay Mobile
Remember, weather dictates holding patterns. If a spot’s quiet, don’t be afraid to try elsewhere. We stock regularly and thoughtfully to keep things balanced.
🗑️ Environmental Stewardship – Keep Wormit Clean
We’ve picked up a few discarded juice bottles and bits of nylon this week — not masses, but enough to warrant a friendly reminder.
-
Bins are located outside the main gate, to the left.
-
Discarded line is dangerous to birds and other wildlife. If you see it — even if it’s not yours — please pick it up.
-
Cigarette butts contain toxins and don’t break down. Take them home.
Let’s keep the place looking sharp and natural. Most of you already do this — thank you.
🔁 Catch & Release – Respect the Fish
Here’s a quick refresher on best practice:
-
Keep fish in the water where possible
-
Use barbless or debarbed hooks
-
Handle with wet hands only
-
Limit air exposure to under 60 seconds
-
Support the fish until it swims off strongly
One photo, one memory — and a healthy fish for another angler.
