🎣 Wormit Weekly Report – Conditions, Catch Highlights & Spring Updates
This past week at Wormit Trout Fishery has seen some exceptional angling, with both seasoned and new visitors enjoying the sport. The fishing has burst in to life with some great catches.
🎯 Some Catch Highlights
- Craig Horsburgh was on top form, landing an impressive 27 fish and experiencing several near misses. He found success using a combination of bung tactics and damsels on an intermediate line.
- Yours Truly managed to sneak in a few hours before sunset last night, resulting in 11 fish, all taken on a buzzer tip line with buzzers and Diawl Bachs. The 4–5 lb range fish provided great sport on a 6-weight rod.
- Hector McNeil returned a respectable 9 fish on Friday, battling through challenging winds – these were caught on a black Mamba.
- Neil Garryman made a comeback after a rod mishap and netted 9 fish in a short session.
- Darren Barcik landed 7 fish and had several long distance releases, while his fishing partner Johnny Whitlam ended the day with 15. Both were using midge tip and floating lines, employing Diawl Bachs and buzzers.

🧠 Conditions & Tactics
The week’s weather presented a mix of challenges, with Friday’s winds testing even the most experienced anglers. However, by Sunday, spring had firmly set in, bringing favourable conditions that are expected to persist.
With the recent clock change, fishing hours have extended until around 20:30, and last night’s session did not disappoint. A significant buzzer hatch had fish rising eagerly, leading to great surface action. The clear water, free from any signs of weed, coupled with a water temperature of approximately 10–11°C, brought the fish right on, resulting in aggressive takes that can rip the line from your hand.
As we come into prime season at Wormit, the surroundings are also coming to life. The grass has had its first cut, and in the coming weeks, the landscape will be in full bloom, enhancing the overall fishing experience.

Please take all litter and discarded nylon home. Let’s keep Wormit clean and sharp. Cigarette butts contain toxins and don’t break down. Please dispose of them properly.
📅 Opening Hours & Booking
We are now open Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from dawn until dusk. With longer daylight hours, you can fish from around 07:00 until approximately 20:15.
The current permit fee is £29.50 — dawn till dusk, catch and release. Come and go as you please.
We have full availability this week from Thursday to Sunday.
