🌞 Wormit Weekly Report – 12 May 2025 🌞
The loch continues to produce superb sport, with consistent catches and some cracking returns reported this past week. The evenings, in particular, are proving electric as we head towards peak buzzer season.
And some exciting news — we’ve secured a fresh delivery of quality brown trout, tiger trout (all around 3lb), and rainbows up to 10lb to complement the already healthy stock. We’re aiming to get these fish into the water by mid-June — watch this space! We will have our regular stocking with these chunky 4lb fish coming up also.
🎯 Some Catch Highlights
- Scott Doig – Landed 11 fish, lost as many, and reported loads of missed takes – “all in all a good day.”
- Iain Miller – 10 fish on white mops, dogs bollocks, and small buzzers – “none came straight to the net, cracking quality fish and good runs off the reel.”
- Joe Giacchetto – Landed 9 fish up to 6lb – “all in top condition and fighting hard.”
Average fish size is sitting comfortably at 4lb, and the rod average remains over 10 fish per angler.
We also experienced one of our busiest weekends since reopening and regrettably had to turn away 5 rods on Sunday as we reached capacity at 12 rods. It’s tempting to let more on, but preserving the quality of fishing and space for all anglers remains key to our ethos at Wormit.
🧠 Tactics That Are Working
- ✅ Small straight-lined buzzers & Diawl Bachs
- ✅ Midge tip & floater lines
- ✅ Lures (snakes) still catching well
- ✅ Bung tactics in deeper areas
- ✅ Evening stripping tactics – plenty of bow waves and aggressive hits near dark

♻️ Fish Welfare & Housekeeping Reminder
We’ve noticed a few bits of discarded nylon and sweet wrappers – a gentle reminder to take all litter home with you. Discarded leaders can injure or kill wildlife, and we’ve unfortunately seen this first-hand recently. Also, please handle fish with care: keep them in the net, remove the barbless hook carefully, revive the fish if necessary, and avoid leaving fish to expire in the margins. Let’s work together to protect the fishery for everyone.
Tight lines,
Greig
