🌦️ Wormit Weekly Report – 20 May 2025 🌦️

Surface temps have crept up — 18°C at 1ft, 15°C at 4ft — and that’s slowed down daytime sport. But don’t be fooled. The fish are still there, just holding deeper. Early mornings and evenings have remained productive, with buzzers and nymphs doing the damage.

And with a big stocking coming this Thursday, plus a promising shift in the forecast, we’re expecting the action to kick off again in style.

🐟 Big Stocking Incoming – Thursday 23rd May

This Thursday we’ll be introducing a strong batch of rainbows averaging 4lb — fully finned, hard-fighting fish that should bring back that “Wormit Bender” energy.

Looking ahead to mid-June (weather depending), we’ll also be adding tiger trout, brown trout (~3lb), and rainbows up to 10lb. This mix keeps things lively, unpredictable, and exciting for regulars and new anglers alike.

🧠 Tactics That Are Working

  • ✅ Go deeper — fish are sitting below the warm top layer
  • ✅ Diawl Bachs & buzzers — size 14 is the sweet spot
  • ✅ Black snakes & mambas — fast retrieves drawing hard hits
  • ✅ Bung tactics — still delivering when fished deeper
  • ✅ Subsurface action at first light and last knockings — fish tight to dusk!

🌦️ Weekly Weather Forecast (20–26 May)

  • Monday – Light cloud, 14°C / 7°C, NW breeze
  • Tuesday – Passing showers, 15°C / 8°C
  • Wednesday – Showery, 13°C / 7°C, SE wind
  • Thursday – Cloudy, 14°C / 9°C
  • Friday – Bright spells, 15°C / 10°C
  • Saturday – Mixed skies, 16°C / 9°C
  • Sunday – Light showers, 14°C / 7°C

Sunrise: 04:33 | Sunset: 21:47

♻️ Weed, Water & Wildlife Update

What the floating clippings really mean:

  • ✅ Dyofix is working: When Elodea is stressed from lack of light, it sheds growing tips to drift and try colonising new ground — a clear sign it’s under pressure.
  • ✅ Grass carp are grazing: Their feeding leaves short floating fragments behind — evidence they’re getting stuck in where it’s needed.
  • ✅ Surface is being managed: We’re skimming windblown clippings before they sink, root and regrow. This stops fouling, keeps water clear, and lets the fish rise properly.

No blanket weed, no scum — just clear, tinted water with a healthy system ticking away below.

⚠️ Note: Some older far-bank jetties are due an upgrade. Please take care when using them.

🎟️ Book Your Session

  • 🟢 Dawn–Dusk Permits: £29.50 – Fish from 04:00 to 22:15
  • 🌆 Evening Sessions: £22 – Fish from 4:30PM until dark — ideal buzzer time

📅 We’re open this Bank Holiday Monday! Online booking is live for Thursday through Monday. Early booking is strongly advised.

🌟 Featured 5-Star Review

Iain Miller ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

A really bright and sunny day when Ryan and myself visited but we kept moving and picked off fish as we went. I ended up with 10 and was impressed with the quality — none came straight to the net. A couple needed to be fought off the reel!

The booking system is brilliant, and being able to turn up and fish from first light is spot on. Greig even WhatsApped some morning tips — greatly appreciated. We’ll be back 🎣

♻️ Tidy Up & Respect the Fish

We’ve had a few issues again with discarded nylon and sweet wrappers. Please take all litter home — it harms wildlife, looks awful, and risks the reputation of the fishery.

  • Use barbless hooks
  • Keep fish in the net when unhooking
  • Revive fully before release

Let’s keep Wormit beautiful and our fish in top condition for the next angler.

Tight lines,
Greig

Where do I start? The setting is lovely. Such a beautiful spot. Prior to arrival I chatted with Greig. Very clear and helpful communication. We had an "experience" day with a guide, Craig, and he was nothing short of spectacular. I was with my wife and two young sons. Craig was clear, thoughtful and fun. Craig made it a wonderful family experience not to be forgotten. Thanks to the whole team!

Owner's reply
Much Appreciated Allen, Craig really enjoyed guiding and has even offered your son some coaching. We look forward to seeing you all again very soon. Tight lines!! :)

Our Club have fished at Wormit twice this season so far. What a beautifully maintained fishery Wormit is with clear banks with easy access to all areas. The fishing was excellent and we caught some cracking hard fighting Rainbow Trout between 3 to 5lbs. Looking forward to our next visit.

Owner's reply
Dave, much appreciated. Glad to have your club there. See you next time for more of the same :)

Raemoir Fishing Club day out at Wormit Fishings - What a fantastic venue!! beautiful and well maintained banks and grounds. Greig was a pleasure to meet and couldn’t have been more helpful and accommodating. The fishing was off the scale and every one of us caught fish that were hard fighting slabs. A day to remember and repeat 10/10 Thanks for a great day out🎣😎.

Owner's reply
