in Weekly Fishery Report, News

Catch Report & Highlights

This past week at Wormit Trout Fishery has been exceptional, with anglers experiencing hard-fighting fish and memorable sessions. Notably:

  • Darren McPherson, fishing on Tuesday and Wednesday due to shift work, achieved an outstanding haul, landing 39 fish and losing over 15.
  • David Simpson reported a “braw day,” netting 10 fish and dropping a few more including a double hook-up. See images below.
  • Harris McLeod successfully landed 8 fish.
  • Alex Kyle caught 2 fish totaling 4.7lb and released an additional 6, all on buzzers and black lures.
  • Stevie Burke released 7 fish, effectively using buzzers and damsels.
  • Alan Doyle had an impressive session, releasing 10 fish on damsels and black lures.

Saturday stood out, with most anglers reaching or nearing double figures, benefiting from favourable conditions that kept the fish active throughout the day.

Fishing Conditions & Tactics

Sunday presented more challenging conditions, with bright sunshine and a cold sea breeze keeping the fish lower in the water column. Despite this, anglers who adapted their tactics still found success.

Effective flies this week:

  • Buzzers (olive, black) – fished static or on the drop.
  • Damsels – consistently productive.
  • Black lures – effective for covering water.

Adapting to conditions by fishing deeper and adjusting fly choice proved crucial on tougher days.

Upcoming Loch Rest Period

Please note that the loch will be rested for the next three days (Monday to Wednesday) to ensure optimal fishing conditions upon reopening. This rest period allows the fish to settle and contributes to maintaining the quality of angling experiences at Wormit. Regular stocking will continue as planned, ensuring lively sport in the coming days.

IMPORTANT:- Fishery Etiquette & Feedback

We always appreciate feedback, both positive and constructive. One concern was raised about last weekend’s fishing, where some anglers found themselves struggling while others were locked into fresh stockies in a concentrated area.

A few reminders on good angling etiquette at Wormit:

  • Rotation & Fair Play: If you’re catching consistently in a hot spot, consider moving to allow others a chance. A small change of location could make a big difference.
  • Fishing Advice: If you’re struggling, don’t hesitate to chat with fellow anglers or the team for tips. Sometimes, a minor tweak in fly choice or depth can turn a blank day into a great session.
  • Conditions Matter: Some days, certain areas will fish better due to wind direction and temperature. We do our best to ensure a balanced fishery, and our restocking practices help spread the action out.

We appreciate the support and encourage a friendly, welcoming atmosphere where all anglers can enjoy their day.
